The Virtues of Fasting

Course Overview:
From a very early age, we start making our children familiar with the basic and important teachings of our Deen. Fasting being one of the most practical practices is often familiar to the children but a grasp of better understanding, eliminating all the common misconceptions and reviving the importance of fasting as one of the pillars of Islam, Team Ashajar brings an informative session for the students to develop a better understanding of the virtues of fasting.
Session objectives:
⦁ Exploring the significance: Under the light of Islam, Fasting is one of an important pillar of Islam and while offering guidance for such an important aspect to student, its significant to revive the importance of this deed and practice under the light of our Deen.
⦁ Scientific light over fasting: : Science has been alongside many of our Islamic teachings and fasting is also claimed to be very beneficial for us on a spiritual as well as physical level. It is very important to integrate this scientific aspect while teaching the significance of fasting.
The segmentation of the course:
1. The purpose of fasting:
This segment is an introductory segment. Additionally, this segment will also be utilized to check and evaluate the prior knowledge of the students about fasting. This segment will help students develop a better understanding of why they should fast. And evaluate the purpose behind it.
2. Recognizing spiritual and emotional blessings:
This segment is interrelated to the first one as it provides an opportunity to the students to ponder over the spiritual and emotional blessings they have or can achieve through these deeds and practices. This part of the session is integral for developing spiritual and emotional connections to their Ibadah.
3. Physical and communal blessings of fasting:
As mentioned earlier in overview the scientific aspect of fasting comes alongside this session. The purpose of discussing this aspect in the session is to make students aware of how fasting can benefit them physically.
4. Rewards of fasting in hereafter:
The practice of fasting is promised to be rewarded by Almighty Allah. It holds a very significant part in our Deen which is very important to gain knowledge on for every student. This session is designed for students to develop understanding of fasting and its importance.
Reflection:
The last segment of this session is student centered. In this segment, the students are encouraged to reflect on the learning they developed. Additionally, the students are asked reflective questions which will also evaluate their understanding of Fasting, and its importance in Islam. The students will also be encouraged to adopt some practices learnt in the session which they would implement in the Holy month of Ramadan Insha’Allah.
